1. Carol (2015): directed by Todd Haynes, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. Based on the novel The Price of Salt, by Patricia Highsmith.
2. Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019): directed by Céline Sciamma. Won the Best Screenplay award and the Queer Palm at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
3. Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013): directed by Abdellatif Kechiche. Won the Palme d'Or at Cannes 2013, also awarded to the two lead actresses.
4. The Invisible Guest / Disobedience (2017): directed by Sebastián Lelio, with Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams, in an Orthodox Jewish community of London.
5. The Handmaiden (2016): directed by Park Chan-wook, inspired by the novel Fingersmith, by Sarah Waters, adapted to Korea under Japanese rule.
6. Pariah (2011): directed by Dee Rees, about a Black teenager searching for her identity.
7. Fire (1996): directed by Deepa Mehta, one of the first Indian films to address the theme.
